Reports
An exciting week of Camogie lies ahead as we have reached the final stages of our Senior, Intermediate and Junior Leagues.
Leixlip await the winners of a playoff between Naas and Sarsfields in the Intermediate Final while Maynooth will play the losers in the Shield. BothCup and Shield finals will be played on Wednesday night.
On Friday evening in Kilcock GAA the Junior Div 2 Shield sees a west county duel between Johnstownbridge and Broadford This local derby should be a close encounter
The following evening in Eire Og’s grounds in Donore we have three finals First up is the Junior Div 1 Cup where a newly formed Celbridge Junior team take on a more seasoned unit from Athy. Theses teams met in the first round where the girls from the south had the edge but with the novice Celbridge outfit gaining experience throughout the spring this game could go either way.
Also at 5 .30pm on Saturday the Junior League Div 1 Shield takes place where Moorefield will meet the winners of semi finalist Rathcoffey and St. Laurences. The Newbridge team working from a very small panel have done really well this season and they will be hard to beat in the final.
Later at 7 .30pm that evening Clane and St Laurences compete for the Senior League Shield. These two sides will be in contention for championship glory later in the year so it will be interesting to see what progress they have throughout the spring season
On Sunday morning the Senior League Final is a repeat of last years dramatic Championship final in Clane. On that occasion Celbridge just had the edge over Johnstownbridge but at this years league meeting in Celbridge the J T B girls won the points in emphatic style. So this should be another ding dong battle.
The Senior Final is in Leixlip GAA at 12 noon so the players and supporters can then hop on the train at the local station to go and see the Kildare / Dublin match in Croke Park.
